Newcastle City Baths

At mr sauna Ltd we love our spa heritage, and are delighted to be involved in the redevelopment of this iconic building.

The original architects Nicolas and Dixon-Spain were appointed in 1924 following a design competition . The pools were floored over in the winter months for a variety of uses including being used as a cinema. Being next to the City Hall meant that sometimes swimmers had to keep quiet to avoid disturbing orchestral performances.

Closed in 2013 as part of council cutbacks, the facility is due to re open thanks in part to a £6 million investment by Fusion Lifestyle.

mr sauna Ltd will be working once again with Createabilty Ltd to redevelop the spa area, which will include the installation of a new sauna, tiled and heated benches, an ice feature, and work to add a new steam generation systrem to the existing steam room.

The work will include the refurbishment of the existing Turkish Baths which offer a series of hot rooms, scrub treatment tables and a cold plunge pool.
